Antedonidae

Identification
Habitat
  • Geographical Distribution:
  • Substrate: Often on elevated structures like rocks and sponges.
Ecology
  • Food Web: Suspension feeders, capture suspended particles from currents near the seafloor with tube feet on their arms (Meyer-Kaiser et al., 2021).
Life History
Conservation Status

Red List: Heliometra glacialis and Poliometra prolixa are both evaluated to least concern (LC) (the Norwegian Red List 2021).

Comments
  • Relevant Taxa:
    • Heliometra glacialis (Owen, 1833 ex Leach MS)
    • Poliometra prolixa (Sladen, 1881)
    • According to Meyer-Kaiser et al. (2021) there are 3 species of crinoids in Svalbard/eastern Arctic: Heliometra glacialis (shallow water, <200m), Poliometra prolixa (shallow and deep water, 18-2500m), and Bathycrinus carpenterii (stalked crinoid, deep water, to 3000m).
